It is here that I will describe my East Coast Greenway Bike Trip - Enjoy
The East Coast Greenway:
The Greenway is a connected series of protected bike paths stretching from Calais, ME south for 3000 miles to Key West Florida. The Greenway is being developed by the East Coast Greenway Alliance, based in Durham, North Carolina and their goal is to create a continuous bike path end to end. Roughly one-third of the route meets this qualification and more pieces are added every year.
My Plan:
Starting in Late March, I will make my way south from Belfast, Maine to the Southern Terminus of the Greenway using Bus and Rail and then commence pedaling North until I reach the Northern Terminus in Calais. I anticipate this will take two - three months including stops along the way.
Why? I have been doing overnight and long bike rides from 1997 until the present. In 2013 I went on my first long ride of three months from Lubec, Maine to Fargo, North Dakota and on-and-off rides to other points. This was cathartic and very beneficial because it stretched my comfort zone and gave me a desire to long rides in the future. I average one multi-day ride every other year and in most cases, for one or more causes. It is soon time for another ride and I am intrigued by this project and its goals.
When: Beginning of April - April 2nd if I can work out the timing. Pedaling for about 60 days with another 30 for connecting with others along the way.
Possible Themes: "The 50 mile landscape", "Eastern Seaboard Cooperatives", "Clean Air and More", "Slow Travel",
Other Pages will show a Budget, The Greenway Route, etc...
